The Sound of Distant Trains

One of things I enjoy about coming back to Ohio to visit, and staying at my parent’s house with my daughters, is the sound of distant trains in the night. The house is not far from where I grew up, and on most nights the sounds of the southbound trains following the Great Miami River through Moraine have almost a calming effect as I drift off in memories of my childhood. Horns echoing and the hum of the huge diesel engines as the boxcars of cargo send their goods to ports south such as Savannah which is very close to where I now live. It’s the sounds, sights and smells that take us back again, to something cherished and never forgotten – echoes in the night, the memories find their voice. So much to be thankful for upon the cold darkness of this December evening. Blessings. Peace.
