Showing of Fine Art Prints | My Best Nature and Landscape Photographs at Anne Bier Gallery in Greenville Ohio

I will be displaying 30 large format, fine art nature and landscape prints representing some of my best work from over the last five years at the Anna Bier Art Gallery, located within the St. Clair Memorial Hall at 215 W 4th Street in Greenville, Ohio. All prints presented will be for sale including 30″x40 canvas gallery wraps, 22″x30″ giclee prints on rag mat finish, and 20×16 giclee on fine art lustre paper. The images selected are also featured in my latest book release, “Soul-Stardust-Sandstone.” The exhibition runs from December 9 2018 to January 19 2019 with the opening reception on the evening of December 9th, from 6-9PM coinciding with the sold-out performance by the “Texas Tenors” singing group.

There is an excellent article written by local Arts Columnist Marilyn Delk for The Daily Advocate describing many of the prints that will be on display and my creative inspiration behind each image. The online version of this article is @ https://www.dailyadvocate.com/opinion/64471/dcca-news-every-picture-tells-a-story-2.

I will be attending the opening reception of December 9th. It would be great to see you there and sharing in the fine art print presentation of my visual discoveries and love for nature and landscape photography.

Give the Gift of an Ohio Spring | Photography Workshop by Jim Crotty

I’m happy to announce my next two-day photography workshop in Hocking Hills, set for early May 2019. This workshop will begin Sunday evening May 5th at The Inn at Cedar Falls and run through Tuesday afternoon, May 7th. Early May is a spectacular time in the hills, hollows, and trails of Hocking Hills, with vibrant new growth and flowing waterfalls. The cost of this workshop is $175 which includes expert guidance and instruction (I’ve been leading workshops in Hocking Hills for ten years!), workshop handouts, and lunch on both Monday and Tuesday.

My photography workshops are a fun balance of both classroom instruction and in the field guidance on the art and craft of nature and landscape photography. I welcome all levels of experience. All that is required is a DSLR camera body, a good lens, and a sturdy tripod. I limit my workshop groups to 20 students so that I can provide individual attention to each and every attendee. There are more details about this particular workshop at https://jimcrotty.zenfolio.com/photography-workshops.

Knowing the Client’s Client | Photography for Company Web Sites and Social Media

When completing photographic assignments for a client’s marketing and web site, I strive to capture the light and setting that is best suited for the particular product or service being advertised. To do so requires more than just technical skill. It requires an understanding and appreciation of the client’s clientele and their customer service goals. This was my goal while photographing the newest additions to the accommodations at The Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls in Hocking Hills, Ohio last week, the “yurts.” These structures are a beautiful and unique combination of both framed tent with all the comforts of a completely furnished cabin.

With this particular assignment I wanted to convey the atmosphere of the “glamping” experience – glamorous camping – but including in the imagery both the comforts of the yurts and the intimate connection to the natural surroundings. With The Inn being a client of my photography services since 2003, as well as the location for both my autumn and spring nature photography workshops, I was very familiar with the “guest experience” goals of such a special retreat location in this beautiful area of Ohio. Another goal of the assignment was to capture the natural light of the setting of the yurts throughout the progression of the day, from morning to afternoon to dusk to evening.

In today‘s world of so much of a company’s products and services being visually communicated via the web and social media it’s vital to invest in photography that will do just that – convey the essence of the experience through professional imagery that both reflects the uniqueness of what is offered and a commitment to the customer who will likely return. again and again.

Enter November | Regaining Your Soul in the Change

The quiet of November. The cold of night slowly releasing to the remaining warmth of the day. Morning mist filling the valleys. Frost-covered leaves and bare branches silhouetting the oranges and purples of early sunsets. There’s a calmness to November; an ease of being, a peaceful disposition before the arrival of winter.

November has always been a welcome respite; that quiet and beautiful month of transition. It is an opportunity to return to my photographic roots among the towering Hemlocks of Hocking Hills and along prairie trails in twilight.

There’s a soft and slightly melancholy feel to the early nightfalls and horizons set to hues between orange and pink and migrating flocks overhead. I welcome the change and I’ve learned not to dread the arrival winter for it is in all the seasons and the in-between months when we are reminded that life is in a constant state of change. The soul was never designed to be a stationary object but flows with tides and the waxing and waning of the Moon.

Change is to be embraced. It’s good. It’s necessary. It’s how we grow. What remains consistent is the energy of love and grace that stays with all the winds of change. Let us all be fully and completely present in all that change brings us and during the calm beauty of November to stop and be grateful for all we’ve be blessed with in our lives.
